Recording

“Duppy Man” was released in 2005 as Chase & Status featuring Capleton on the Breakbeat Kaos single “Duppy Man / Top Shotta.” The track was produced and composed by Saul Milton and Will Kennard, with Capleton credited as performer and Stuart Hawkes credited for mastering. The single gave Chase & Status an early national chart entry, reaching number 94 on the UK Official Singles Chart and number 3 on the UK Dance Singles Chart. It connected their Breakbeat Kaos period with Capleton’s vocal presence and helped establish their pre-“More Than Alot” catalogue. “Duppy Man” remains one of Chase & Status’s key early singles and a regular reference point in their mid-2000s breakthrough period. Its later compilation appearances and continued digital availability kept it visible beyond the original Breakbeat Kaos release.
