Hurricane
Bob Dylan · 1975The final master was recorded on 24 October 1975 at Columbia Recording Studios in New York after legal concerns prompted Bob Dylan to revise and rerecord an earlier version. Dylan performed with Scarlet Rivera, Rob Stoner, Steven Soles, Howie Wyeth, Luther Rix and Ronee Blakley under producer Don DeVito. Co-written with Jacques Levy, the song protested the murder conviction of boxer Rubin Carter and became one of Dylan's most prominent 1970s topical songs. It reached number 33 on the Billboard Hot 100 and helped draw international attention to Carter's case. The recording remains a defining narrative protest song and a central document of Dylan's Rolling Thunder Revue period. Its forceful advocacy endured alongside debate over its treatment of disputed details in the case.
