Nick Drake · 1971
Recording

Recorded in 1970 at Sound Techniques in London during sessions for Bryter Layter. Joe Boyd produced the track, John Wood engineered it, and John Cale added piano, organ and celeste. The song marked one of Nick Drake's most fully arranged recordings and was considered to have strong commercial potential, although it was not released as a single. Its luminous arrangement provided a striking emotional climax to Bryter Layter. The track became one of Drake's most celebrated songs as his reputation grew after his death. Its use in films and television helped introduce his work to later generations.
