Recording

Recorded and mixed at Coach House Studios in Bristol during the 1990-1991 sessions for Blue Lines. Shara Nelson sang the lead vocal over production by Massive Attack and Jonny Dollar, with Bryan Chuck New engineering the mix. The track placed Nelson's soulful vocal within the album's sparse combination of programmed rhythm, sampling and dub-influenced bass. It contributed to the distinctive sound of a debut album that brought international attention to Bristol's emerging electronic scene. The recording remains a notable album cut from Blue Lines and an early example of Massive Attack's collaborative approach to vocal music. Its subdued atmosphere and spacious production helped establish a template followed by later downtempo artists.
