Givin Up

Produced by Dave Rabjohns under the Hairy Diamond name and built around samples from the Ad Libs' Giving Up and Clyde McPhatter's The Mixed Up Cup. The single was mixed at PPQ HQ Boss Engine Studios, Weston Park Studios and Studio 114. Released in 2000, the track reached number 84 on the UK Singles Chart and number 18 on the UK Independent Singles Chart. Its combination of vintage soul samples and downtempo production established Hairy Diamond's signature sound. The track remains Hairy Diamond's best-known recording and later appeared in the influential 2ManyDJs mix As Heard on Radio Soulwax Pt. 1. Its rediscovery through compilations and streaming preserved its reputation as a cult turn-of-the-century sample-based single.
