Clocks

Coldplay · 2000
Recording

Recorded between September 2001 and May 2002 during sessions for A Rush of Blood to the Head, with Chris Martin developing the piano riff late in the album process and the band reworking the song for inclusion. Coldplay recorded the album at Mayfair Studios, Parr Street Studios, and AIR Studios with producer Ken Nelson. Released by Parlophone and Capitol as a single from A Rush of Blood to the Head, Clocks became one of Coldplay's defining early hits. It reached number 29 on the Billboard Hot 100 and won Record of the Year at the Grammy Awards. Clocks remains one of Coldplay's signature recordings, built around one of the band's most recognizable piano riffs. Its success helped establish the larger, piano-led sound that shaped the band's global profile after Parachutes.
