A Different Feeling
The Avalanches · 1999Created during the 1999 and 2000 sessions for Since I Left You at Softlight Bistro and Wow Sound in Melbourne and Westfalia Beachhouse in Sorrento. Robbie Chater and Darren Seltmann assembled the track from layered samples, with Tony Espie mixing and Mike Marsh mastering. The track was a prominent example of the Avalanches' sample-based construction, combining vintage horn passages, vocal fragments and electronic sounds. It appeared on the critically acclaimed debut album Since I Left You and later received a dedicated remix release. The recording remains a representative deep cut from Since I Left You and has been revisited through remixes by Paperclip People and Ernest St. Laurent. Its dense collage helped establish the album as a landmark of sample-based production.
