Since I Left You

The track was recorded by The Avalanches at Soft Light Bistro in Melbourne and finished with final mixing at Sing Sing by Robbie Chater, Darren Seltmann, and Tony Espie. It was built from a dense sample collage assembled during the band’s long-running Melbourne sessions. Released as the title single from the group’s breakthrough era, it helped define the album’s sample-based pop approach and carried that sound into the UK charts. It reached No. 16 on the UK Official Singles Chart and became one of the project’s best-known tracks. The song remains one of The Avalanches’ signature recordings and a touchstone for sample-driven electronic music. Its construction and melodic lift have kept it central to later discussions of collage-based production.
