Cannonball Adderley · 1975
Recording

Recorded in 1975 for the album Phenix, the track featured Cannonball Adderley leading a jazz-funk ensemble that included his brother Nat Adderley and a group of electric-era session musicians. The recording reflected Adderley's embrace of contemporary funk rhythms while retaining his distinctive hard-bop-influenced saxophone style. Released during the jazz-funk period of Adderley's career, the track demonstrated how established jazz artists were incorporating funk grooves and electric instrumentation. It became a standout album cut among listeners drawn to the fusion of soul, jazz and funk. The recording later found an audience among rare-groove collectors and hip-hop producers, who valued its rhythmic feel and melodic passages. It remains one of the most recognized jazz-funk recordings from Adderley's later career.
