Computerwelt

Kraftwerk · 1981
Recording

Recorded during the 1979–1981 sessions at Kling Klang Studio in Düsseldorf, Computerwelt opens the German-language edition of the album of the same name. Ralf Hütter and Florian Schneider produced the recording, with Karl Bartos contributing to its composition. The song placed institutional data collection and computerised everyday life at the centre of Kraftwerk's vision of modern society. Its references to police agencies and financial institutions connected technological progress with surveillance. Its depiction of interconnected databases and electronic monitoring has retained cultural relevance as digital surveillance has expanded. The track remains central to the album's exploration of life organised through computers.
