In the Night

Cheryl Lynn · 1981
Recording

"In the Night" was recorded at Ameraycan Studios in Hollywood during sessions for Cheryl Lynn's third album between October 1980 and March 1981. Ray Parker Jr. wrote, produced, recorded and mixed the song, with Gene Page arranging the album's strings. Issued as a follow-up single from the album, the title track reached number 79 on Billboard's Hot Soul Singles chart. It represented Lynn's collaboration with Ray Parker Jr., who shaped the album's polished rhythm-and-blues production. "In the Night" remained the title track of one of Lynn's best-regarded early albums and has been retained on subsequent expanded and remastered editions. The single version has also been preserved separately from the original album mix.
