Remind Me

Recorded between October 1981 and February 1982 at Conway Recording Studios in Hollywood for Straight from the Heart. Patrice Rushen created the layered electric-piano, synthesizer and clavinet arrangement, with James Gadson on drums and backing vocals from Roy Galloway and Lynn Davis. The album track demonstrated Rushen's ability to combine intricate keyboard writing with an understated vocal groove. It became one of the most critically admired recordings on her commercially successful Straight from the Heart album. The song became Patrice Rushen's most frequently sampled recording and a lasting source for hip-hop and R&B producers. Its layered keyboards and relaxed rhythm have made it a defining example of her influence on later music.
