Forget Me Nots
Patrice Rushen · 1982Recording
Recorded at Conway Studios in Hollywood for Straight from the Heart with Patrice Rushen and Charles Mims Jr. producing; Freddie Washington co-wrote the song and Gerald Albright appears on the album’s horn parts. Released in 1982 as the lead single from Straight from the Heart, it became Rushen’s best-known crossover hit and reached No. 23 on the Billboard Hot 100, despite the label initially giving it little support. It also became a Grammy-nominated signature record for her. The song remains one of Rushen’s defining recordings and is widely remembered as the basis for Will Smith’s “Men in Black.” It has also been repeatedly sampled and reissued in extended single versions.
