California Love

Recorded in October 1995 at Can-Am Studios in Los Angeles. The single paired Tupac Shakur with Dr. Dre and Roger Troutman, with Dr. Dre handling production and vocals alongside Tupac. Released as Tupac Shakur’s comeback single after his prison release and first major Death Row Records single, it became an immediate West Coast anthem. It reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and helped define the sound and visibility of mid-1990s gangsta rap. The track remains Tupac’s signature hit and one of the most recognizable rap singles of the 1990s. Its hook, video imagery, and Dr. Dre production have kept it in constant rotation, and it is regularly cited as a cornerstone of West Coast hip-hop.
