My Sweet Lord
George Harrison · 1970Recorded in 1970 during the All Things Must Pass sessions at EMI Studios and Trident Studios in London. George Harrison sang and played guitars alongside Ringo Starr, Billy Preston, Klaus Voormann, members of Badfinger and other musicians, with Harrison and Phil Spector producing. Released as Harrison's first solo single after the Beatles split, it became the first number-one single by a former Beatle in both the United Kingdom and the United States. Its devotional lyrics and layered production made it the commercial centrepiece of All Things Must Pass. The song remains Harrison's signature solo recording and one of rock music's best-known expressions of spiritual devotion. A plagiarism ruling concerning its similarity to the Chiffons' He's So Fine became a landmark case in music copyright law.
