Outside Love

Brethren · 1970

Recording

Recorded at Gold Star Studios in Hollywood for Brethren's 1970 self-titled debut album. The lineup featured Tom Cosgrove, Stu Woods, Rick Marotta, and Mike Garson, with Dr. John, Rusty Young, Patrick, and The Blossoms among the credited support personnel. Released by Tiffany Records in 1970, Outside Love appeared on Brethren's first album. The track became one of the album's standout cuts through its prominent breakbeat, tight rhythm section, and later collector reputation. Outside Love became Brethren's most widely circulated recording after being sampled in many hip-hop and dance productions. Its drum break made it a lasting crate-digging favorite beyond the band's short original recording career.
