Ohoopee River Bottomland

Larry Jon Wilson · 1975
Recording

Larry Jon Wilson recorded Ohoopee River Bottomland for his 1975 debut album New Beginnings, produced by Bob Johnston for Monument. The recording framed Wilsons deep Georgia vocal and acoustic songwriting with a Nashville studio-band setting. Released by Monument in 1975, Ohoopee River Bottomland introduced Wilsons autobiographical South Georgia voice on his first major album. The track helped define his place among 1970s Southern singer-songwriters working outside the commercial Nashville mainstream. Ohoopee River Bottomland became one of Larry Jon Wilsons signature songs and a lasting statement of his regional storytelling style. It remained central to later reassessments of his catalogue and to the wider revival of interest in 1970s country-soul and Southern songwriters.
