In the Ghetto

Susan Cadogan · 1975
Recording

The track was issued in 1975 as Susan Cadogan’s reggae cover of Mac Davis’s song, produced by Lee “Scratch” Perry. It was released as a UK single on Klik, catalog number KL604, alongside “Congratulations.” The single extended Cadogan’s run of Lee Perry-produced cover versions after her breakthrough with “Hurt So Good.” It was a non-charting follow-up release aimed at the British reggae market. The song later became part of Cadogan’s core 1970s catalogue and remained a recurring inclusion on Trojan-era compilations. It is still identified with her Lee Perry period and with the broader lovers rock/reggae cover tradition.
