Fever

Susan Cadogan · 1974
Recording

Recorded in Kingston, Jamaica with Lee “Scratch” Perry at the controls and The Upsetters as the backing group. It was cut during the Sexy Suzy sessions at Black Ark Studios. The track was issued as part of Susan Cadogan’s Perry-produced Jamaican material and showcased her cover of the Little Willie John standard in a roots-reggae setting. It became a cult favorite among reggae listeners, even though it did not chart on release. It has endured as one of Cadogan’s best-known recordings outside her 1975 hit “Hurt So Good.” The song has been reissued repeatedly and has inspired later reggae reinterpretations, keeping Perry’s original production in circulation.
