Can't Stop Now

Major Lazer · 2009
Recording

The track was recorded for Major Lazer’s debut album Guns Don’t Kill People... Lazers Do, with Diplo and Switch handling production and Mr. Vegas and Jovi Rockwell on vocals. The album sessions took place at Downtown Music Studios in SoHo, Silver Ridge in Los Angeles, and Tuff Gong Studios in Kingston. Released on June 16, 2009, the track helped define Major Lazer’s early dancehall crossover sound and stood out as one of the album’s most melodic, accessible cuts. Contemporary coverage of the album singled it out as part of the record’s strong first half and its push to move Jamaican dancehall into club-oriented electronic music. The song remained part of Major Lazer’s catalog long after release, receiving a remix treatment on Lazers Never Die and later appearing in anniversary reissues. Its sample-heavy construction and dancehall blend also led to later reuse and remix attention, keeping it active in the project’s wider catalog history.
