“Get Free” was recorded in 2011 for Major Lazer’s second album “Free the Universe” and features lead vocals by Amber Coffman of Dirty Projectors. The song was written by Thomas Wesley Pentz, David Taylor, David Longstreth and Amber Coffman, with production credited to Major Lazer. The single was released in 2012 by Downtown and introduced the “Free the Universe” campaign. It reached number 56 on the UK Official Singles Chart and became one of Major Lazer’s most prominent pre-“Lean On” crossover records. “Get Free” remained central to Major Lazer’s catalogue through remixes, live performances and its later use in film soundtracks. The Andy C remix also carried the song into drum-and-bass DJ circulation.
