Rock the Funky Beat

“Rock The Funky Beat” was first issued in the UK as a 12-inch single on Urban Takeover. The original release credits Arif Salih and Lee Parker as writers and producers, with Salih also credited as engineer and Gavin King as executive producer. The track moved from an underground Urban Takeover 12-inch to a wider EastWestDance release in 1997. It reached number 30 on the UK Official Singles Chart and gave Natural Born Chillers their main national chart entry. “Rock The Funky Beat” remains the defining Natural Born Chillers release. Its later mixes, including versions connected to Urban Takeover and 187 Lockdown, kept the record in circulation across late-1990s club culture and collector catalogues.
