Warhead

“Warhead” was released in 1997 on DJ Krust’s “Warhead (Steppa Mix) / Check Dis Out” 12-inch for V Recordings. The release credits Krust as writer, producer and lacquer-cutting engineer. The single became one of Krust’s defining V Recordings releases and reached number 60 on the UK Official Singles Chart. Its stripped-down bassline and stepper structure made it one of the key Bristol-linked club tracks of 1997. “Warhead” remains one of Krust’s signature productions and a recurring reference point in accounts of late-1990s drum-and-bass sound design. Later criticism has described it as a foundational industrial-strength bassline stepper and a lasting dancefloor standard.
