Hey Jude

John Holt · 1974
Recording

Recorded for John Holt’s Trojan-era pop-reggae run and issued on the 1000 Volts of Holt album, which was produced by Tony Ashfield with Bunny Lee and released in the UK in 1974. This cover translated the Beatles song into Holt’s smooth reggae style at the height of Trojan’s early-1970s crossover push. It was part of the album that helped establish Holt as one of reggae’s most marketable vocalists. The track remains one of Holt’s best-known Beatles covers and has circulated on later Trojan compilations and digital reissues. It continues to represent the polished, orchestral side of 1970s reggae-pop.
