Palo Alto

Devonté Hynes · 2014
Recording

Recorded in 2013 and 2014 for Gia Coppola's film Palo Alto, with Devonté Hynes composing and performing the music as part of the film's original score. The track was created during the same period as Hynes' work on Blood Orange's Cupid Deluxe era and reflected his growing involvement in film composition. The song served as the title track of the Palo Alto soundtrack and marked one of Hynes' earliest major film-scoring projects under his own name. It expanded his reputation beyond indie and pop songwriting into soundtrack and cinematic composition work. The recording is regarded as an important step in Hynes' transition into film and television scoring, leading to further soundtrack projects in subsequent years. It remains associated with the atmospheric style that connected his solo work with his growing career as a composer.
