Techno City

Cybotron · 1983
Recording

The single was made by Cybotron's Detroit lineup of Juan Atkins, Richard Davis, and John Housely, with Ben Grosse and Cybotron credited as producers. Fantasy Records issued the vocal and instrumental versions as a U.S. twelve-inch single in 1984. Released after Enter and Clear, the record extended Cybotron's machine-funk futurism into a direct Detroit city concept. Its title and sound helped fix the language and urban imagery that later framed Detroit electronic music internationally. The track became one of Cybotron's core early records and remained a touchstone in accounts of Detroit techno's origins. Later reissues and compilations kept it connected to the genealogy running from Cybotron to Juan Atkins's Model 500 work.
