Call of the Wild

Jeff Mills · 1999
Recording

Jeff Mills mixed and produced Call of the Wild for the Skin Deep EP, issued on Purpose Maker in 1999. The original 12-inch credits all tracks to Mills for Purpose Maker USA, with publishing by Millsart. The track opened Skin Deep EP during Mills' late-1990s Purpose Maker run. It carried the label's direct, percussion-led club language into the period when Mills' Axis and Purpose Maker catalogues were central to hard, functional techno. Call of the Wild remained active in Mills' performance catalogue and appeared in later live and digital contexts, including Exhibitionist and Axis retrospectives. Its WhoSampled documentation also identifies its use of Michael Jackson's Get on the Floor, linking it to Mills' sample-based rhythmic construction.
