Give Me the Sunshine

Recorded during the 1977–78 sessions for We Need Each Other in Los Angeles, with the trio of Alvin Few, Johnny Simone, and Kenny Stover handling production and vocal duties. The album credits list recording at Axis Sound Studio, Group IX in Hollywood, and Total Experience Studios, with Bill King and Johnny Simone among the arrangers. Released on Lyon's Record Co., Inc. in 1978, the track became the best-known song from Leo’s Sunshipp’s lone album and a staple of late-1970s rare groove and soul collecting. Its unfinished album context and laid-back vocal style helped the record gain cult status soon after release. The song has remained a durable rare-groove favorite and has been sampled and covered, keeping it active in modern DJ and crate-digger culture. Its continued circulation has made it the signature Leo’s Sunshipp track and the group’s most recognizable recording.
