Let No Man Put Us Under
First Choice · 1977Recorded at Sigma Sound Studios in Philadelphia for First Choice’s 1977 album Delusions, with Norman Harris, Ron Kersey, Ronnie Baker, Earl Young, and Bruce Hawes in the production team. The session was built around the Philadelphia rhythm section and orchestral disco arrangement that defined the album. Issued originally as an album track in 1977, it gained greater attention when Salsoul re-released it in 1983 and it reached the UK Official Dance Singles Chart. It became First Choice’s signature song and a staple of club and DJ culture. The track became one of the most sampled First Choice recordings, feeding later house and hip-hop records by artists such as Todd Terry and the Jungle Brothers. It also remained a touchstone of disco and house repertoire through later remixes, reissues, and covers.
