Byron Lee & The Dragonaires · 1971
Recording

Recorded at Dynamic in Jamaica and produced by Byron Lee, with Carlton Lee credited as engineer. The track appears on the 1971/1972 Reggay Splash Down LP and features vocals by Keith Lyn, Vic Taylor, Barry Biggs, Jr. Gray, Sammy Davis, and The SPM girls. Byron Lee & The Dragonaires turned Charles Wright’s soul hit into a Jamaican reggae cover, placing it among the band’s early-1970s crossover releases. On release, it stood out as part of Reggay Splash Down, a record that helped frame the band’s polished reggae sound for a wider audience. The recording has remained a favorite deep cut from Byron Lee’s catalog and continued to circulate on reggae and funk compilations and DJ mixes. It also represents the band’s durable habit of reworking international pop and soul songs into Jamaican forms.
