Recording

The 'Left Eye's 3 Minutes and Counting' version of 'Ain't 2 Proud 2 Beg' was produced by Dallas Austin and released on the 1992 single alongside the original album version, featuring an extended rap section by Left Eye (Lisa Lopes) over an expanded sample palette that departs from the album cut. Released as TLC's debut single in 1992 on LaFace Records, the track introduced the group's combination of harmony R&B vocals and Left Eye's rap interjections to mainstream audiences, reaching number 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 and establishing the template for their breakthrough commercial run. The track launched TLC as one of the defining acts of 1990s R&B and helped establish LaFace Records as one of the decade's dominant labels, with Left Eye's rap persona — showcased most distinctly in this version — becoming one of the most recognisable voices in the genre.
