Temporary Secretary
Paul McCartney · 1980"Temporary Secretary" was recorded during the private 1979 sessions that became McCartney II, with Paul McCartney performing every instrument and vocal himself. He built the track around a repeating electronic sequencer pattern and recorded largely alone at his home studio in Scotland. Issued as a limited 12-inch single in 1980, the track presented one of McCartney's most overtly electronic and unconventional productions. Its mechanical sequencer pattern, clipped vocal and sparse arrangement stood apart sharply from his mainstream work of the period. "Temporary Secretary" developed a substantial cult reputation and was later reassessed as an unusually forward-looking example of early electronic pop. McCartney brought it into his live set for the first time in 2015, decades after its original release.
