Live on Stage (Hip Hop Version)
Roxanne Shanté · 1989Recording
Recorded for the 1989 album Bad Sister, the track was produced by Marley Marl for Roxanne Shante during her Cold Chillin and Reprise period. The single also appeared in hip hop and house versions, with CJ Mackintosh associated with the house remix. Released in 1989, Live On Stage became one of the singles from Bad Sister and reached number 82 on the UK Official Singles Chart. It showed Roxanne Shante extending her battle rap persona into a late 1980s club single format. The track remains one of the better documented singles from Bad Sister and a marker of Roxanne Shantes post Roxanne Wars recording career. Its house and hip hop versions reflect the crossover pressure around New York rap singles at the end of the 1980s.
