Recording

Recorded in New York by the Backroom Productions team of Cassio Ware, Derek A. Jenkins, and Dwayne “Spen” Richardson. The record was issued from the same 1988 Back to Basics material and later released as the 1989 Big Beat single, with the release billed in the UK trade press as “Definition of a Track / In Motion.” It stood as a club-oriented New York hip-house record and was promoted as a Big Beat release in 1989. UK trade coverage treated it as a notable dance-floor track, and it reached the UK singles chart at No. 91. The track has remained a house and hip-hop reference point for later reissues and edits, including Kai Alce’s 2019 version and modern dance compilations. It has also been repeatedly identified for its sampled Lyn Collins drum break and for its connection to the Backroom Productions catalog.
