When It Falls

Zero 7 · 2004
Recording

Zero 7 recorded the title track for its second album, with Henry Binns and Sam Hardaker credited as the song’s producers and Nigel Godrich credited on keyboards and other instruments. The album release also credits the duo’s core studio work and places the track within the 2004 When It Falls sessions. As the title track of Zero 7’s second album, it helped define the record’s more polished, melancholic direction after Simple Things. The album was released in 2004 on Ultimate Dilemma in the UK and Elektra in the United States. The track remains the album’s namesake cut and a key reference point for Zero 7’s early-2000s sound, still resurfacing through reissues and catalog releases. Its association with Nigel Godrich also keeps it connected to a wider network of acclaimed alternative and electronic production work.
