Getting Nasty
Ike Turner & the Kings of Rhythm · 1969Recording
Recorded by Ike Turner & The Kings of Rhythm during the late 1960s as part of Turner's increasingly funk-oriented studio work. The session featured Turner's band with his trademark guitar, piano and rhythm arrangements at the forefront. The track captured Ike Turner's transition from rhythm and blues into harder funk grooves at the end of the decade. Its raw rhythm section and extended instrumental passages made it a favorite among funk collectors and DJs. The recording became highly regarded in rare-groove and breakbeat circles, with portions later sampled by hip-hop producers. It remains one of the better-known instrumental funk recordings from Ike Turner's catalogue.
