Time is Tight
Sound Dimension · 1969Recording
Sound Dimension recorded the track in Kingston as part of the Studio One house-band sessions led by Clement “Coxsone” Dodd. It was cut as a reggae instrumental version of Booker T. & the M.G.’s “Time Is Tight.” The recording extended Studio One’s practice of reworking contemporary soul hits into Jamaican instrumental versions. It stood as a compact example of early reggae’s link between American R&B and Kingston studio craft. The track remained a staple Studio One cover in the reggae canon and continued to circulate on reissue compilations. It is remembered as one of Sound Dimension’s cleanest soul-to-reggae adaptations.
