Supernatural Thing, Pt. 1
Ben E. King · 1975Recording
It was recorded in 1974 in New York City, with production by Bert DeCoteaux and Tony Silvester. The session was cut at Atlantic Studios and Electric Lady Studios, with Ben E. King backed by a large soul-funk studio ensemble. The single marked a major comeback for King in 1975 and returned him to the top tier of the pop and R&B charts. It became his first U.S. No. 1 R&B hit in 14 years and reached the pop Top 5. The track remains King’s signature mid-1970s hit and a key example of his disco-era reinvention. It has stayed in circulation through compilations and later covers, keeping the song present in soul and funk retrospectives.
