Tracy In the Room

Everything but the Girl · 2001
Recording

Issued in the United Kingdom on VC Recordings in January 2001, the single is a Lazy Dog bootleg vocal built by Ben Watt and Jay Hannan from Everything But The Girl’s “Wrong” and Soul Vision’s “Come Into My Room.” MusicBrainz credits the mash-up to Lazy Dog, Sandy Rivera, and the source recordings by Everything But The Girl and Soul Vision. The track turned a club mash-up into an official single and extended Everything But The Girl’s late-1990s dance-floor phase. It reached No. 34 on the UK Singles Chart and spent two weeks on the chart. It remained one of the best-known examples of Ben Watt’s Lazy Dog-era club work and is regularly referenced as a cross-genre EBTG dance cut. The track also circulated widely on compilations and later mixes, keeping the mash-up in the duo’s catalogue after release.
