Carousel
Le Carousel · 2013Produced by Belfast electronic musician Phil Kieran as part of his Le Carousel band project, recorded over a two-year period after Kieran relocated from Belfast to Donegal to recruit musicians, with Kieran performing vocals alongside his production. David Holmes remixed "Carousel" for the accompanying single series, and a separate Phil Kieran club mix appeared on the twelve-inch vinyl. Released in March 2013 on Kieran's own PKR label, the self-titled album drew extraordinary praise from Laurent Garnier, Matthew Dear, Bicep, Felix Martin of Hot Chip, Jamie Jones, Maya Jane Coles, and Peter Hook of New Order and Joy Division, with Andrew Weatherall and David Holmes contributing remixes to the vinyl singles. Resident Advisor noted the album represented a significant shift for a producer best known for techno output on Soma, Electric Deluxe, and Cocoon. The album achieved underground cult status and led to a second Le Carousel album, The Humans Will Destroy Us, which expanded the project's sound into more cinematic territory with shoegaze-infused electronics and analogue textures.
