Move Your Body
Marshall Jefferson · 1986Marshall Jefferson made the track in Chicago after composing the keyboard, bass, and drum parts on a sequencer, with Curtis McClain singing the lead vocal and Rudy Forbes and Thomas Carr contributing backing vocals. Ron Hardy mixed the record, and the original 12-inch credited Jefferson under his Virgo production identity. Released in 1986 on Trax Records, the single became one of the foundational Chicago club records and was subtitled The House Music Anthem. Its piano-led arrangement helped define the sound of early house music and became a calling card for the Chicago scene internationally. The track remains one of house music's canonical records and has been repeatedly sampled, remixed, and licensed in dance-music culture. It later reached the UK Official Singles Chart in 1990 and continued to circulate through Trax, Radical, and later reissue campaigns.
