Pump Up the Jam

Pump Up the Jam

Technotronic · 1989
Recording

Technotronic cut the track in 1989 under Belgian producer Jo Bogaert, credited as Thomas de Quincey. The recording was associated with Swanyard Studios in Islington, London, and Bogaert’s home studio, The Haunted House, in Aalst, Belgium. Released in 1989, it became Technotronic’s breakthrough single and a major crossover club record. It brought Belgian dance music into the mainstream and reached No. 2 in both the UK and the US. The song remains one of the defining early global dance hits of the era. It has been widely sampled, remixed, and covered, and it is still a staple of 1980s and 1990s club compilations.
