Letter to the Better

Master Ace · 1989
Recording

Recorded in 1989 as part of Masta Ace’s first solo single, with production by Marley Marl and Masta Ace. It was issued on the Prism/Cold Chillin’ side of the Juice Crew circle and later appeared in original form on compilation releases. The track introduced Masta Ace as a solo artist after his debut with the Juice Crew. It also helped establish his early rapport with Marley Marl, the central architect of the Cold Chillin’ sound. The song remained part of Ace’s early catalog and continued to circulate through reissues and compilations. Its beat and vocal style kept it in rotation among fans of late-1980s New York hip-hop and breakdance-era singles.
