Redds & the Boys · 1989
Recording

A Washington, D.C. go-go recording by Redds & the Boys, issued in the mid-1980s and later circulated on London’s Go-Go: The Sound of Washington, D.C. compilation. The track was associated with the live, percussion-driven club sound of the D.C. scene and credited to the group with Robert “Shine” Freeman as producer. The record captured one of the signature chants of Washington go-go and helped present the scene to listeners outside the city. It became one of the most recognizable cuts associated with Redds & the Boys’ club reputation. The song remained a familiar go-go reference point and continued to circulate through compilations, DJs, and retrospective writing about the Washington, D.C. scene. Its call-and-response hook kept it in the memory of later go-go listeners and collectors.
