Road to Hell

Road to Hell

Chris Rea · 1989
Recording

Chris Rea recorded Road to Hell at Miraval Studios in France during the March to July 1989 sessions for the album The Road to Hell. Rea wrote the song and produced the album with Jon Kelly, with Neil Amor and Diane BJ Koné engineering the sessions. Road to Hell was released in 1989 as the title-track single from The Road to Hell, with Part 2 used as the main single side. It became Rea's first UK Top 10 single and helped drive the parent album to number one in the United Kingdom. Road to Hell remains one of Chris Rea's signature recordings and a defining song of his late-1980s commercial breakthrough. Its motorway-inspired imagery and dark social commentary made it one of his most durable catalogue songs.
