I’m in the Mood
John Lee Hooker · 1989Recording
Recorded in 1989 at Russian Hill Recording Studios in San Francisco during the sessions for The Healer. Bonnie Raitt sang and played slide guitar on the track, which reworked Hooker’s earlier composition with a duet arrangement. The song was a centerpiece of Hooker’s comeback album The Healer and became the pair’s Grammy-winning collaboration. It helped turn the album into his most successful late-career release and brought his music back into the spotlight. The track remains one of the best-known late-period John Lee Hooker recordings and is closely associated with his revival in the 1989–1990 blues crossover era. It continued to be cited as a key song in his catalog and as a defining Hooker-Raitt collaboration.
