The Dirty Dozens

Johnny Jones · 2007
Recording

Recorded live at the Fickle Pickle in Chicago on June 25, 1963, with Johnny Jones on piano and vocals and Billy Boy Arnold on harmonica. Norman Dayron captured the performance, and the set was issued without a rhythm section. Released in 1979, the track preserved a rare live document of Jones as a singer and pianist. It stood out as part of one of the few recordings that showcased his own vocal style outside the studio sessions made with other Chicago bluesmen. The recording remains a key source for Jones’s performance style and has continued to circulate on later CD reissues. It also helped keep his name visible within Chicago blues scholarship and reissue culture.
