This Is Hip

John Lee Hookers This Is Hip was issued on the 1980 Charly Records compilation This Is Hip, drawn from recordings licensed from Vee Jay Records. The track is credited to Big Bill Broonzy and John Lee Hooker and features Hooker on vocal and guitar. The 1980 release gathered Hookers Vee Jay era material for the British blues reissue market. This Is Hip served as the title track and highlighted a lesser circulated item from his mid-century catalogue. This Is Hip remained in circulation through later Charly and budget-label Hooker compilations. The title also gained later visibility after Hooker reused it for a new version on Mr. Lucky.
