Bad Moon Rising
Bo Diddley · 1971Recording
Recorded for Paul Humphrey's 1973 album Supermellow, the track featured Humphrey on drums with a jazz-funk studio ensemble assembled by producers Larry and Fonce Mizell. The session emphasized extended grooves, layered percussion and electric instrumentation characteristic of the Mizell sound. The track was part of the early-1970s jazz-funk movement that bridged jazz improvisation and funk rhythms. It became a favored deep cut among DJs despite not charting as a single. Its drum break and groove have been widely sampled in hip-hop and remain sought after by rare-groove collectors. The recording is regarded as one of the standout tracks from Humphrey's catalog.
