Started Out With Nothin
Seasick Steve · 2011Seasick Steve recorded Started Out with Nothin for the 2008 album I Started Out with Nothin and I Still Got Most of It Left with Steve Wold on vocal and guitar, Dan Magnusson on drums, and Gale Mayes and Kimberly Fleming on backing vocals. Steve Wold wrote and produced the track, with Nick Brine engineering and John Davis mastering. Released by Warner Bros in 2008, the track opened Seasick Steves first major-label album and helped frame his UK breakthrough after Dog House Music. The album reached the UK top 10 and made him a mainstream festival and television presence in Britain. Started Out with Nothin became one of Seasick Steves signature songs from his late-2000s rise. It remains closely associated with his stripped-back storytelling style and the wider revival interest in rough-edged contemporary blues performance.
